what's next?

this website will serve as my digital journal. in the process of learning web programming, the design will evolve and change over time.

with the way the world and internet is changing, i've decided to make a conscious effort to take a step back from the current internet as we know it. with this website, i will document my personal growth. i will share my photography, my visual art, glitch art, music that i make, and explorations in other hobbies.

a photo retrospective

in 2022, i had been living in a new state for work with my partner for about 2 years. i was feeling very creatively starved. i was unfufilled with my day job, and music wasn't filling the void it used to. i didn't have the space for gear, my band at the time was young and not playing out, i couldn't be loud in our apartment, etc.

my degree is in graphic design, but after losing my first design job to the pandemic, i had become disillusioned with that realm of visual art. i poured more time into music exploration, creating songs and soundscapes for myself, but musical inspiration isn't this constant thing for me. when it was there, i felt great. when it was gone, i felt like i was missing something.

i still was interested in visual art, but i didn't know what to do with it. eventually, my day job turned me towards social media and marketing. through that, i became interested in purchasing a camera to use for work. i eventually settled on a fujifilm xt30ii. it reminded me of the camera i used in college in my darkroom class, but it was digital.

this sparked something. at first, it felt cool to use a quality camera for work. but it was still work. i don't particularly enjoy modern social media, so it still wasn't really fufilling a creative hole in myself. i started to find artists on instagram pursuing minimalist photography. things that people would probably say are bland and not worth photographing, certainly not for art.

i thought my cookie cutter city block style neighborhood was boring since we moved, but suddenly i had a camera in hand, and i was looking in places i normally wouldn't bother glancing at. i got excited about composition and colors. needless to say, i was hooked.

while i've mostly stopped pursuing photography lately, i can't deny that it filled a hole in myself for a few years. i'm hoping to take more photos this year. i'd like to get more into film photography. i recently met someone in my area who shoots a lot of film, and also develops their own film which is super cool. we'll see what happens.
